Active Boredom
Chie Konishi’s videos show her communicating with everyday objects in an unusual way or creating surprising dramatic situations between film and photography, through the performative use of her own body.
The installation Active Boredom at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen consisted of three parts: a monitor work, a three-channel projection (triptych) in the Laboratory and a video projection in the Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen stairwell. While the videos shown in Labor were shot in the studio and characterized by a certain intimate atmosphere, the projection in the stairwell showed a performance the artist staged one afternoon at the Rathauspassage in Innsbruck, a busy shopping center. The duality of locations (private/public) corresponded with the scenographic layout of Active Boredom, giving the installation an added spatial dimension. Private and public spaces served as coordinates for finding a concerted body language and media.
The artist gave a performance as part of the presentation.
