An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism

In her performance lecture An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism, presented within the framework of the book launch for Aesthetic Journalism by Alfredo Cramerotti, artist Fay NICOLSON introduced some of the ideas explored in Alfredo Cramerotti’s text whilst adopting and performing strategies used in the field of aesthetic journalism. This lecture performance focused on key aspects of Cramerotti’s book, including the assigned roles of art and journalism within wider society; ideas of populist and elite informative structures; the role of audiences in terms of passively consuming or actively producing meaning; and the aesthetic value of forms, mediums and contexts.
An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism collects fragments of research and visual references to investigate the authorship, ownership and transcription of information, the academic and narrative tradition of the lecture and ideas of performativity as an artist or audience. In questioning standard practices of “informing” An ABC of Aesthetic Journalism aims to leave open possibilities in the place of a complete thesis.
