Hinrich Sachs: Bildmonopole—Image Monopolies

After screening his current project Designing Truth, Hinrich Sachs led a public discussion on the working methods of artists as compared to other socially prevalent forms of image production. Designing Truth is a portrait of biologist and computer scientist Ansgar Philippsen, a visualization software development specialist in the in the area of biochemistry. It examines how scientific images come about, against which background they can be interpreted, and what effect the visualization of knowledge has on the general concepts of body, nature and society.

Hinrich Sachs is artist and writer based in Basel. He was a consulting researcher in the department of fine arts at the Jan van Eyck Academie, and has been a professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm since 2007.
