The Physical Hot Spot

The Physical HoT SpoT—a physical connection to a network in public space. The body—the plug-in.

If we assume that the network technologies, with their mobile periphery devices, serve the purpose of enhancing the power of perception, Uli Schuster’s The Physical HoT SpoT represents a port for an analogous, direct connection using one’s own body. In Innsbruck, the artist researched this topic via an installation: a mesh of locally-specific events that had disappeared from present-day city resurfaced in visitors’ performative recording of information.

Uli SCHUSTER (*1970) lives and works in Berlin. He studied Free Multimedia at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and Experimental Media Design at the University of the Arts in Berlin. He has been exhibiting and making projects since 1999.
