Martin Hörtnagl

Martin Hörtnagl (*1972) is a multifaceted artist from Tyrol who works in the fields of painting, installation, land art, and art in public space. His works address social, ecological, and existential issues. He has been exhibiting regularly since the early 2000s and has gained recognition with work cycles such as Downsizing (2023) in St. Jakob im Defreggen and perfectblue (2022) in Vienna and Innsbruck. Das rote Band (2019) and Fleischeslust (2018) attracted a great deal of attention, while works such as Rotz auf Holz (2017) and Schafesbruder (2014) underline his range. Hörtnagl is also known for his land art and installations, for example in the Innsbruck Botanical Garden (2018). In public space, he made a striking statement with the project Das Maß aller Dinge (2023) in Waltherpark Innsbruck. His art reflects man’s critical approach to nature and society in a humorous and provocative way.
