Tom Zabel
Tom Zabel was born in Heidelberg (FRG) in 1956. Zabel’s identity as an artist is made up of several identities. He is a performer, musician, songwriter, puppeteer, visual artist and this has always been his only bread and butter.
In 1992, Zabel said about himself that he found himself in the concept for H. Szeemann’s exhibition “the tendency towards the Gesamtkunstwerk” and that Beuys’ “expanded concept of art” had shaped him. He is driven by an instinctive urge for creative self-exploration and is almost fatefully non-conformist. He moves in a wide variety of environments, from galleries to public spaces, and uses artistic means of expression in an interdisciplinary way.
