Seemingly unchangeable social realities and their representation in the media are Elisabeth Schutting’s motivation for her artistic work. With the energy of the experimental, she deconstructs images from everyday life, history as well as art history, and shifts contexts and perspectives to create productive misunderstandings. Elisabeth Schutting’s work is to be understood as a continuous remix, which finds expression in digital as well as analogue works.

Elisabeth Schutting was born in Innsbruck and studied Graphic Design and New Media (LA) at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, as well as History and Social Studies at the University of Salzburg after training and working as a graphic designer. From 2000 to 2002 she studied Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, and in 2012/13 Time-based Media (MA) at the Kunstuniversität Linz.

Her works have been shown in Austria and abroad – among others, at the MUMOK for the selection of the Koschatzky Art Prize in 2005, 2009/2010 in New Orleans sponsored by the City of Innsbruck, the exhibition VIDEOHOLICA International Video Art Festival in 2012, 5th Edition Varna in Bulgaria, at the Premiere Days at the Theological Faculty in Innsbruck, the 2014 International Video-Art screening Borderland, The entropa of identities at the Nottingham Playhouse, Pixels of Identitiy, Photography|Video Art|Performance Art in Buenos Aires, Project: space periscope in 2015 in Salzburg, and at ArtFair Venice in 2020.
