Eunjung Hwang’s animated films and installations explore the representability of visual archive material stored in the subconscious. Protagonists in her surreal, child-like drawn dream worlds are characters whose actions and dispositions are driven by primal behavior and emotions and they interact with one another accordingly. Bestial Delights introduced new characters and animations inspired by the “illusion of a fragmented reality” during the artist’s stay in Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. Functioning as a kaleidoscopic puzzle of the unconscious, the work produced its own symbolism.
