The new Fellows – Kush BADHWAR, Yara HASKIEL, Ash MONIZ, Mykola RIDNYI – will present their work and their plans for the coming months in the context of the Start Up Lectures 2020-21 on 19 March 2021.

In the course of her artistic investigation Reflexive Alliance, Lena Ditte Nissen invites again on two consecutive days, Sa 5 and So 6 September 2020, each time at 15.00, to a workshop.

The exhibition shows current works by the Fellows and in the context of their respective projects in Büchsenhausen.

In the context of their artistic investigation into the partisan culture in Yugoslavia titled Lessons in Defense, the KURS collective will host two guests who are researching about progressive artistic groups from Zagreb and Belgrade form 1930’s that influenced the partisan culture during World War II. After an introduction by KURS (Mirjana Radovanović and Miloš Miletić), Vida KNEŽEVIĆ (art historian) and Vesna VUKOVIĆ (curator) will talk about the illegal group Život (Life) respectively and the Zemlja Artists‘ Association.

Fellow Anna DASOVIĆ, invites the interested audience to partake in a critical reading and discussion of an excerpt from the material that forms the foundation of Dasović’s work at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. Central to this project is the question, how European histories of colonialism have both produced Western Europe’s militarized masculinities and formed the continent’s relation to and the aesthetics of the notion of the ‘Other.’

In the course of her artistic investigation Reflexive Alliance, Lena Ditte Nissen invites on two consecutive days, Sat 18 and Sun 19 January 2020, each at 15.00, to a workshop.

This event will address the continuities and discontinuities of leftist organizations in Eastern Europe by looking at the particular context of Belarus. Sasha Ihnatovich will present a variety of current political initiatives in Belarus, focusing mostly on examples originating from feminist, queer and environmental contexts. A further topic of discussion will be the constitution of these political art practices and their intersection with movement politics.

Based on archival material, unearthed through primary research at the moving image collections of the Library of Congress, the workshop investigates female representations in American newsreels of the postwar period (1945-1957).

Art and the Capitalist Economy of Desire was the title and topic of Jan Sieber’s theoretical project proposal during his fellowship at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. In search of the music of minorities, the film Widerklang der Seele [The Resound of the Soul] (75min., 2017) invites you to take part in the Tyrolean migrant music scene.

Angela Anderson screens her – together with Angela Melitopoulos produced – two-channel films Unearthing Disaster I and II. The works present results of a long-term research about the destruction of Halkidiki in Northeastern Greece. The artists began documenting the environmental, social and psychological damage inflicted on the region by the construction of a massive open pit gold mine by the Canadian mining company Eldorado Gold.

In the form of a studio talk Andrei SICLODI (curator) discusses with fellows Angela ANDERSON and Michael BAERS (both artists, USA) their respective work at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen.

Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen presents MADE IN BÜCHSENHAUSEN, an exhibition of the Tyrol-based artists who are currently using a studio in the Künstlerhaus. Katharina CIBULKA, Kata HINTERLECHNER & Bosko GASTAGER, Stephan PIRKER, Nora SCHÖPFER, Maria WALCHER and Benjamin ZANON will show current works in the so-called “lab”, the exhibition and presentation space, on the terrace and in various other spaces in the Künstlerhaus. Following the invitation of Maria Walcher, the artist Hannes EGGER will also participate in the show.

On Saturday, 6 October 2018 the exhibition Made in Büchsenhausen will be opened for the last time from 6 pm to midnight. At the same time, the artists working here will open their studios…

Art machines and machine art. Fastened to a ski jump simulator developed for training purposes, artist and ski jumpers will aim in the direction of a white canvas from a maximum of 3 metres above ground. The jumping skis have been prepared in advance using acrylic paint, so that each landing will be preserved as a print.

Echoing the Start Up Lecture from Oktober 2017 that marked the beginning of Julie Sas’s fellowship Program for Art and Theory, she will conclude her work stay here with a lecture performance that will expose, in a specific language operation, some of the aspects and components of her artistic investigation Silent Red Alert – speculative materials on anonymity that she has conducted over the past nine months.

In the context of her artistic investigation Silent Red Alert: Speculative Materials on Anonymity, which centers strategies of disappearance and escape from normative regimes of visibilities, Julie Sas (artist and Büchsenhausen-Fellow) invites the Paris-based group The Cheapest University to Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen to work here for a week. The workshop titled ‚A Theory of Obscurity‘ will be concluded by a public exhibition.

On April 21st 2018, Kulturkollektiv Contrapunkt invites you “to fail” at Büchsenhausen. On the basis of lectures, readings, performances,
discussions and a concert we are going to approach the topic of failing from various perspectives.

In this workshop Seçil Yaylalı and belit sağ concentrate on forms of censorship that become manifest even in the preparation phase of a work.

Invited by Büchsenhausen fellow belit sağ in the context of her artistic investigation [the–——- work] into censorship as a social situation, artist and educationalist Seçil Yaylalı will speak about her work in the sense of “practice as exchange” …

A joint event with Globales Lernen, Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen and Südwind Tirol. The photographic research project by Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński deals with experiences of exclusion and visualizes them: what was once unnameable becomes nameable.

The exhibition presents works by the current Büchsenhausen fellows, which are connected to their respective work projects over the coming months: it is about loss of reason and censorship as significant aspects of our era, about strategies of escape from the visibility regimes of contemporary societies, and about art and the libidinous economy of desire in capitalism.

As part of her work in the context of the Fellowship Program, artist Marianna Christofides is showing two of her essay-films related to her artistic investigations at Büchsenhausen and other associated materials.

As a follow-up to his Büchsenhausen-Fellowship in 2016/17, Vladislav Shapovalov is showing his new film Image Diplomacy, which he developed at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. It has been produced in cooperation with the V-A-C Foundation, Moscow.

Golden Genes by Ursula Hansbauer, Wolfgang Konrad and Clemens Stachel will be screened and followed by a discussion between the filmmakers and the bioethicist Gabriele Werner-Felmayer on 28 March 2017 at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. The screening will be taking place in the event series Follow-Ups, in which we are presenting former Fellows’ works that have been initiated during but completed after their Fellowship at Büchsenhausen.

Again this year, the Fellows’ fall / winter exhibition will introduce their work. Entitled Uncanny Formations, it will show current works by this year’s Fellows – Eva Egermann, Stefan Hayn, Kerstin Schroedinger, and Vladislav Shapovalov – which are linked to their planned projects in Büchsenhausen.

For some months now, listeners to FREIRAD – Freies Radio Innsbruck have been able to hear unusual interpretations of customary radio formats such as jingles, hits or radio courses. These vocal formats “smuggled” into the normal radio programme and broadcast with no prior announcement are part of the work You are a Dancer by French choreographers Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet (les gens d’Uterpan)

Providing the title for the exhibition at the end of Lizzy Fidler’s stay in one of the Tyrol’s studios in Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen is a green that was first named in the mid 19th century: Viridian Green.

This filmscreening curated by Benjamin Tiven shows films that posit digital material as heavy, embodied, and embedded: in architecture, in nature, in machinery, in the frames of a film as it is watched.

To mark the opening of the newly founded research center “Migration and Globalization” at the University of Innsbruck, a presentation of the book “Nach der Migration. Postmigrantische Perspektiven jenseits der Parallelgesellschaft” (eds.: Erol Yildiz / Marc Hill) and a panel discussion on the topic will take place in Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen.

The admision free workshop in English is based on Stewart Martin’s lecture entitled The Artistic Strike.

The ‘Abstract Strike’ platform in Milan and Venice, in conjunction with the Biennale, 2015; Ulf Aminde’s ‘Strike:Opera’ #3, 2013, and #3.1, 2014; the ‘Art Strike Biennial in Alytus’, 2009; the ‘SPART [= SPort + ART] Strike’ in Northern Island, 2009-12; the artistic collective Claire Fontane’s proposal of a ‘human strike’, since c. 2005… It appears that the notion of a strike in the field of art has some currency today.

In the context of the Start Up Lectures the new Fellows – Andrea Bellu, Fokus Grupa, Benjamin Tiven und Marina Vishmidt & Anthony Iles – will present their work and their plans for the coming months. In their respective working proposals they are raising questions – in a broader sense – about the constitution and effect of the imaginary in critical art practices.

In the course of the exhibition, which was conceived especially for the “ORF-Long Night of Museums”, working artists from the Tyrol will open their studios in Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen to the public and allow insights into the varied production of contemporary art in the region.

The Faculty of Invisibility FOI aims to conduct a possible institutional space. In close reference to the United Nations as an example for an institution that binds law, language, and community together, the FOI asks, in its production, how an institution establishes itself, how it enforces its own mechanisms and rules, and how it treats issues of belonging or the assembling of members. In order to work on those questions and to carry them out, the philosopher and psychotherapist Maaike Engelen and the cultural theorist Emma de Vries were invited to take the first seats at the table of the FOI at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen.

Alluding to daily reports delivered by a spokesman to members of the United Nations, the Faculty of Invisibility hosted a conversation at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen on Monday, November 30 at 7pm, with participants including Paul Gangloff, Sönke Hallmann, Inga Zimprich, Maaike Engelen and Emma de Vries.
