Alexander Vaindorf: Fallen out of the Cold
Exhibition at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen, 14.01.2006 to 03.02.2006
Artist talk, Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen, 14.01.2006
For his first solo exhibition in Austria, Alexander Vaindorf showed two new video installations and a video produced shortly before.
Alexander Vaindorf’s videos and video installations derive their material from extensive fieldwork that the artist has done among marginalized groups in and from Ukraine as well as their shared community spaces. Ukrainian migrant workers during their Sunday gathering at the Parco di Resistenza in Rome (Detour. One Particular Sunday, 2006); radiation-exposed children from Chernobyl in the sanatorium, the only habitat left for them (Kids, 2003); people at a hospital undergoing special hypnotherapy to reverse the negative side-effects of previous hypnosis sessions (Every Word is Becoming, 2006). Using documentary stylistic devices and the de-construction of media storytelling formats, Vaindorf drafts a socio-cognitive status report of the present, the relevance of which reaches well beyond the boundaries of these specific realms.
Alexander VAINDORF (*1965 in the former USSR) lives and works in Stockholm. He received an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in New York. Vaindorf has participated in numerous international exhibitions since 1996 including Manifesta 7 (South Tyrol/Trentino, 2007).
