Pavillon Tyrol

Cristian Rusu’s project plan considered questions as to whether space can be used as three-dimensional structure for cliché, and which components of collective memory would have to be fulfilled to create a plastic-visual system that could be defined as a cliché.

The object installation on the terrace of the Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen attempted to find answers to these questions. Pavillon Tyrol was the result of the confrontation with the reservoir of images and imagination the artist came upon in the Tyrolean alpine-urban surroundings and, so to speak, its commentary—a composed comprehensive image, constructed as a space for a cliché.

Pavillon Tyrol stood on the Künstlerhaus terrace until the spring of 2008. A documentation of the project—including sketches and photographs—was published in Romanian Cultural Resolution (edited by Alexandru Niculescu and Adrian Bojenoiu, Hatje Cantz Verlag, Ostfildern 2011, p. 110-111).

Cristian RUSU works as an artist, stage designer and lecturer in Cluj/RO. He is member of the artist group Duo van der Mixt (together with Mihai Pop).
