Mona Vătămanu and Florin Tudor

LIVING UNITS - CONSUMING THE CITY

Living Units by Mona Vătămanu and Florin Tudor focused on the forms and functions of serial (residential) architecture and the life conditioned by it in a post-communist urbanity. Equally rooted in the architects and artist scene, Vătămanu & Tudor were interested in the documentation and artistic processing of modernist architecture from the postwar period, the presence of which continues to shape and structure the lives of millions of people.

In Living Units—Consuming the City they continued their artistic research in a different context, one determined by Western consumerism and the specific, functionalized natural environment in and around the city of Innsbruck. The video installation combined visual research in Innsbruck with basic questions of functionality, ideology and ecology in architecture.

Vătămanu & Tudor’s residency at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen was supported by KulturKontakt Austria.
