Fellowship Program for Art and Theory 2020-21

Dear friends of Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen,

We have good news: our new Fellows from Sydney/Australia, Cairo/Egypt, Kiev/Ukraine and Berlin/Germany, have all arrived in Innsbruck by now (beginning of March 2021) and are looking forward to developing their respective projects in the coming months!

In their artistic projects, the participants of the Fellowship Program 2020-21 deal with central issues of our time: with the collective memory, mourning, and border crisis of Greece following its severe austerity policies; with the phenomenon of so-called “flags of convenience” and the transformations concerning legislation and employment associated with this “territorial expansion” of nation-states; with official as well as unofficial narratives of state formation with regard to India’s newest state, Telangana, which has only been independent since June 2014; and with the question of dehumanization through the portrayal of violence in the media and its impact on society.

The artists Yara HASKIEL, Ash MONIZ, Kush BADHWAR and Mykola RIDNYI were invited, after a two-stage application process in which more than 170 artists and theorists took part, by an expert jury consisting of Jochen Becker (curator and author, member of the advisory board at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen), Silvia Franceschini (curator at Z33 – House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture in Hasselt/Belgium) and Andrei Siclodi (curator, director of Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen) to work on their respective projects at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen.

As every year, the artistic research, as well as the development and production processes, will be accompanied by a diverse program of public events suggested by the Fellows and realized in close cooperation with them. After the Start Up Lectures on 19 March 2021, the Büchsenhausen Focus Weeks 2021 will take place from 16 April to mid-May 2021. The opening of the final exhibition of the Fellowship year 2020-21 is scheduled for 17 June 2021.

Up-to-date information on content and dates, as well as any pandemic-related postponements, can be found on our website www.buchsenhausen.at in the coming months.

We wish you exciting and enlightening experiences with this year’s Fellowship Program at the Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen!
